39. Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler Review Posted by: TechLobby
Video duration: 215 seconds Global video hits: 1620 Does size matter? The NH-D14 thinks so. With its huge size and dual fan setup it will hog a lot of precious space but is the compromise worth the while? Watch the video review for more info. can i install it on ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 with GSkill RIP JAW RAM installed
By: orestesdd. on 26 Aug 10, 13:26:31
@SSc0ut I will double check before buying. I need to make sure that this type of cooler does not interfere with tall DDR3 memory sticks, for I have read somewhere that some of these bulky coolers do not allow to accommodate tall RAM sticks. Thanks for your response.
By: SSc0ut. on 26 Aug 10, 05:07:16
@orestesdd I would assume yes as the sniper is larger than the scout. Always worth actually checking though =)
By: SSc0ut. on 26 Aug 10, 05:05:41
Great review, thanks alot. I especially love how you use the CM Storm Scout as i am planning to use this case for my pc i'm building later in the year. Whenever the reviews say that the cooler is large and may not fit smaller cases i always worry so having you actually install this in the scout saved me alot of other research. One other Question, this wont fit Corsair Dominator ram underneath it will it?

if you drop from 4ghz to 2.94 ghz from 70*c what will be the next temp for the 2.94ghz?
By: ChronologieIV. on 19 Aug 10, 18:33:44
What about high profile RAM modules? Can the cooler be installed with them? (those you're using are low profile, I think)
By: jchambers2586. on 16 Aug 10, 03:59:41
now I know it will ft my case I have the same case. cooler master scout.
By: ashrocks87. on 16 Aug 10, 01:12:31
so do you buy the coolers or you get them for free?
By: AndreiBirsan88. on 11 Aug 10, 13:03:05
can i fit this in a cm 690 ii advance case???
By: orestesdd. on 06 Aug 10, 21:32:11
Do you know if that big heatsink fits into a CM Storm Sniper Black case? Does it need lapping? Thanks.
By: RomeoWhiskey18. on 05 Aug 10, 21:06:32
I'm very tempted to get this cooler to tame my i7 930 that seems to run exceptionally hot, but I'm somewhat concerned about the weight. I tend to cart my computer around with me on a weekly basis [in the car - more hassle but cheaper and more powerful than a laptop] the weight of this cooler wouldn't damage the motherboard or CPU socket would it ... ?
By: Geekman257. on 24 Jul 10, 14:01:39
THATS THE EXACT SETUP IM HOPING TO GET :)
By: TylertheGeek28. on 17 Jul 10, 02:15:52
I kind of wish u would test all the coolers like this on a i7 system because there the hottest heat wise out right now and if it can keep a i7 cool it can cool anything lol, u sound kind of tired in the video anyways good review

@starchamberS Rendering/editing I think you would be fine with a Phenom II X6.. and you will save a thousand or more (look at my system on my channel) it's great for rendering..
By: starchamberS. on 15 Jul 10, 11:27:44
@Alex148710 Well, hope it will cut rendering / editing times, but the 960 looks just as good... Picked up my Noctua cooler yesterday, looks supreme quality. only concern is it's weight.. So hope any of the Gigabyte ultra durable motherboards should handle it..
By: k1llgor3. on 15 Jul 10, 05:00:53
@Alex148710 well, my choice is settled, thanks, I was about to buy the H50 too. I'll be able to fit fine too, since I'm getting the HAF-X.
By: Alex148710. on 15 Jul 10, 03:49:25
@k1llgor3 The Noctua outperforms the H50 by 5-10 degrees...
By: Alex148710. on 15 Jul 10, 03:48:09
@starchamberS The Noctua is the best.. This is your first PC and you're using a 980X why do you need that for?
By: starchamberS. on 11 Jul 10, 15:32:26
Hi, I'm building my first PC and trying to decide between this NocTua NH-D14 and the Titan Fenrir Special edition for a Core i7 980X with GA-X58A-UD9 motherboard. Do you know which of these is best choice? Thanks
By: k1llgor3. on 11 Jul 10, 05:59:18
I'm going to get an I7-930, and overclock it to about 4.0, and I can't decide what cpu cooler to use, its either this or the Corsair H50. I don't know which would perform better
By: MTFDarkEagle. on 09 Jul 10, 14:38:34
@kylerk86 Yes: have a look at the noctua website: there is a compatibility page
By: PCWizKid. on 08 Jul 10, 14:19:09
@overlordfrink Not sure I understand your point. Air is expelled from the back always, I covered the ram because I can and have no need to show the ram, the AIR is flowing in a straight line from one side to the outside. having a rear fan makes the air leave quicker keeping to inside cooler. Its installed properly as specified in the manual and also as other testers have done it.
By: overlordfrink. on 08 Jul 10, 14:13:18
You installed it backwards to cover your ram slots? Why not just remove your back fan and have it expel air? Or are you using the back of your case to pull air in? Some people here might think that you have to install it that way to cover your ram, though it's designed not to.
By: soma1509. on 07 Jul 10, 23:43:20
Was it a pain to actually remove and reinstall the middle fan after screwing in the heatsink? I have the same case and a Prolimatech Megahalems, and it's a pain to install a dual-fan setup since there's not much room to work with, at least for my hands. And I'm guessing tall memory heatsinks are out the window? Would it interfere with the fan that is over the RAM?
By: Ellipsic. on 28 Jun 10, 02:34:09
I just bought CM 690 II Advanced case. I think it will fit in there but I'm not sure. So does it fit? And do you have to take off you mobo when installing that beast?
