In applications (like games, or modelling software, or any 3D application, even your standard desktop these days) the GPU is tasked with creating the visual representation of what the CPU is doing. The CPU is good at doing tasks like calculations and following the program, while the GPU is doing the repitive tasks like painting a similar picture 60 times a second. CPUs nowadays are going for parallel processing, with multiple cores (CPUs within CPUs). Eventually they might meet.

@rockerojuan seriously, haha!
By: rockerojuan. on 17 May 10, 20:09:25
Yes a GPU can be really powerful, but a GPU can't do everything by itself, the CPU helps it render more than you think.
By: rockerojuan. on 17 May 10, 20:08:48
@kkjgg112391 LOL
By: nick113z. on 17 May 10, 19:51:37
@mPowerGmbh ya they are still trying to frigure things out with the banks, but they arent making new markers right now, if anything they are just selling off what they have left in storage
By: mPowerGmbh. on 16 May 10, 17:15:32
@nick113z SP hasn't gone belly up actually... I personally bought like 20 markers from them personally within the last 4 months. (10 ions / 7 ion XE / 3 Shocker NXT ) since i like to go paintballing with friends and its cheaper to just buy them rather than pay bullshit 80$ rental for wifebeater spyder's with CO2 and stock barrels.

By: TheHomelessCripple. on 26 Feb 10, 04:04:21
What horrible resolution on the Mona Lissa
By: TheHomelessCripple. on 26 Feb 10, 04:03:48
it was a metaphor. The parallel tasking was the multiple guns shooting at once, while the single tasking CPU could only shoot 1 ball in succession.
By: Jschroyer88. on 22 Feb 10, 18:10:34
The GPU made it all happen in under 1 second genius. The CPU shot the paintballs out individually. The GPU calculated the air pressure, time, etc. so the paintballs would fire simultaneously and faster than any gun could fire them, without the whole thing exploding.
By: netherfoam. on 19 Feb 10, 07:39:19
Holy mother of failbots... The "Uber GPU" Has to fire all the "paintball guns" at once! Thatd be amazing. Only one thing... if you had 1100 paintball guns lined up, and had each tied to a piece of sting, yanked the string, you could paint the mona lisa too! Gpu has to do zilch but pull the string -.- Thats NOT parralel tasking or multitasking or w/e they want to call it. Thats something well frankly I think the closest thing youd need to a GPU is a pressure gauge, and air compressor/pump.
By: marsniper27. on 15 Feb 10, 22:23:43
NVIDIA RULES and so does the myth busters put them together and you get something epic! GPUs can do more faster the a CPU keep CPUs for math leave graphics to NVIDIA!!
